FairShare

FairShare is a ride coordination app designed to help college students easily find, join, and organize shared rides to common destinations. While the app is built for a broad student audience, our research and user interviews were grounded in the Georgia Tech community, focusing on the specific challenges of Atlanta’s car-centric layout and the $795 parking permit students must purchase in order to keep their car on campus. With group based ride matching, built in fare splitting, and real time chat between group members, FairShare makes it safer, cheaper, and easier for students to get where they need to go, all while reducing traffic and carbon emissions.

I created FairShare in collaboration with my project partner Esther Moon as part of the Spring 2025 Bits of Good Design Bootcamp. While all of the early research, ideation, and wireframes were done together, I independently redesigned the entire UI after the program ended.

We presented our Hi-Fi at the conclusion of the bootcamp, and received feedback and advice on our design. Building on the feedback we received, I continued iterating on the wireframe independently. The following designs reflect my solo design work.

Hi-Fi

First, I redesigned the homepage:

  • Changed the label for each card from the name of the group leader to the destination

    • Much more intuitive and relevant

  • Introduced a clear "Join Group" CTA

  • Simplified and cohesive visual design

    • Updated the color scheme for better visual harmony

    • Added a clear "Current Offers" header to establish context for the page

  • Removed unclear/non-essential elements

    • Removed "Sort by: Relevance", as it lacked clear user value

    • Removed profile pictures and full names to protect user privacy

Next, I redesigned the page to create a ride share request and post one, updating the current layout to the new color scheme. I also enlarged the "Continue" and "Post Request" buttons to create clearer CTA's.

I also redesigned the page to join a ride request to fit the new color scheme.

  • I also clarified some language I thought was confusing. The "add yourself" button clashed with the "Join Group" button, making it confusing to know which one to pick

  • Removed the indication of which group member was the host, as it didn't seem relevant

I kept the messaging UI mostly the same, just updating the color scheme and making small changes to the layout.

  • Changed the titles of chats to "Upcoming Rides" and "Completed Rides" since the previous wording was unclear

  • Removed names from the top of an opened group chat, as it seemed redundant

I redesigned the UI for the payment wireframes, updating the color scheme and making slight tweaks, like showing who has completed the payment in chat.
